Seven Laws of Success

What is success? Webster’s Dictionary defines the word "success" as: "the achievement of something desired, planned or attempted." A person should desire to be successful and make plans for the achievement of his success.

First of all, success is more than just money, power, and the acquisition of material possessions. Real success endures the test of time.

There are Seven Laws that we can apply to help us be successful.

1) Set Goals

Most people go through life without setting any goals. They live their lives the same way day in and day out without even thinking about the future. Many people never think about having a purpose in their life. They are not going anywhere in particular.

By setting a goal, we can arouse ambition and purpose in our lives. By achieving that goal, we can have the great feelings of satisfaction, accomplishment and success.

2) Prepare with Education

We need to acquire the know-how, education and preparation to achieve our goals. Humans are not like animals or birds with instinct. A baby calf will be walking a few minutes after it is born. Through instinct a bird knows how to build a nest automatically. We humans have to be taught or learn how to walk or talk and we must learn a skill to be able to make a living.

We need to take the steps that are required to gain the education and know-how so we can attain our goal.

3) Maintain Good Health

To be successful we must be in good health. When it comes to health, remember the following seven points: maintain a good attitude, eat properly, maintain cleanliness, get plenty of sunshine and fresh air, exercise regularly, get plenty of rest, and avoid injury.

Without good health a person could be discouraged from achievement.

4) Prod Yourself

Success is accomplishing your goals. It is being a doer and not a hearer only. It takes an attitude of drive to put the prod on yourself and maintain the willpower and energy to achieve your goals.

5) Be Resourceful

There are always trials and tests that will come along to take your mind off of your goals. The cares of the world have a tremendous impact on our lives. It takes resourcefulness, and a cool head to quickly get all of the facts and make a wise decision. Being resourceful is analyzing the problem and being able to go to the right source for the right answer. Meditate and pray about your problem. We can always turn to God for support and help. He can answer prayer and give us a solution in dealing with our problem. We should also do our part and seek counsel from competent people. The Bible says that in a multitude of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14). To succeed you need to develop the ability to reach a right decision and act upon it.

6) Persevere

Whenever you set goals, failure is always just around the corner. Many people give up and quit, when just a little more determined perseverance or stick-to-i-tiveness would have turned the apparent certain failure into a fantastic success. To be successful you have to hang in there and not give up.

7) Maintain Contact with God

Many successful people in this world have applied the first six of these seven laws of success. By not applying this seventh law, they have left God out of the picture and the real happiness of success out of their lives. We make contact with God through prayer and Bible Study.

Man may be physical with physical needs such as food, water and shelter but there is an emptiness within him without contact with God. Man needs the spiritual food, the living bread (John 6:51) and the living water (John 4:10) that only God and Jesus Christ can provide.

A Spiritual Example

Let’s look at a spiritual example. We set a goal that we want to be a better Christian. In order to prepare, we must begin reading and studying our Bible to gain the education required for our goal. A Christian must maintain good health so he can concentrate on his goal. You have to prod yourself and exert willpower to overcome your trials and tests and to work on your goal. The Bible is the best resource that God has given man. It is through His word that we gain knowledge, understanding and wisdom. It is from the words of Jesus that we can know how to live. Jesus was perfect and always set the right example. We can always ask the question: What would Jesus do? There is a saying: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" Christians have to be tough and must persevere and stick-to-it by overcoming their problems, trials and tests. A Christian must always have contact with God though prayer and Bible study. This is how we talk to God and He can talk to us.
