Lesson: Daniel 12 - The End Time

Email: info@icogsfg.org

SCRIPTURE READING: Daniel   12:1-13

GOLDEN TEXT:  Daniel 12:4

1. Who stands up for the people of God? (Daniel 12:1). Is there coming a time of trouble? Will God’s people be delivered? Where will their names be written?

Note: The phrase "At that time" refers to the time of the end (Daniel 11:40).

Michael is an archangel (Jude 9) and is called a chief prince (Daniel 10:13, 21) and he will fight against Satan and the demons in the war in heaven (Revelation 12:7).

The term ‘book’ is referring to the Book of Life in which God’s people will have their names written (Exodus 32:32-33, Revelation 20:12, 15).

2. Will many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth awake? (Daniel 12: 2). What will their reward be?

Note: These people who are asleep in the dust are dead and they will awake in a resurrection. Some will be resurrected in the first resurrection to everlasting life and others will be later resurrected to the resurrection of damnation to be burned up in hell.

3. What are some advantages of being wise? (Daniel 12:3).

Note: The word ‘wise’ is the from Hebrew word ‘sakal’ which means to observe carefully and be circumspect. We are to watch because we do not know what hour Christ will return (Matthew 24:42.) Much of Matthew 24, the Mount Olivet prophecy, comes out of the book of Daniel.

4. Was Daniel to seal the book (scroll) until the time of the end? (Daniel 12:4). Where will people run? Will knowledge increase?

Note: Daniel was to put his personal seal on this book to preserve it till the time of the end.

What kind of knowledge will increase? From the context of Daniel’s prophecy it is referring to the understanding of this prophecy of Daniel which will be sealed until the end time and then the wise will understand.

5. Did Daniel see two more angels standing on two riverbanks? (Daniel 12:5).

6. Did one of the angels ask the man clothed in linen a question? (Daniel 12:6).

Note: Daniel saw two angels. God requires two or three witnesses for a matter to be established (Deuteronomy 19:15). These two angels are witnesses along with Daniel. Daniel was a man and he was going to die, but angels will not die and they will be the witnesses of Daniel’s prophecy as revealed by the angel Gabriel (Daniel 9:21) who was the angel who looked like a man clothed in linen (Daniel 10:5).

7. What was the time reference that Gabriel gave when the power of the holy people would be completely shattered and all these things would be finished? (Daniel 12:7).

Note: The phrase ‘time, times, and half a time’ equals 3 and one half years, or 1260 days or 42 months. Notice Revelation 11:3 Jesus says: "I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." The power of the holy people will be broken when the two witnesses are killed by the Beast (Revelation 11:7-10).

There is no mention of the two witnesses in the book of Daniel. The only mention of them in the Old Testament is in Zechariah 4:14.

8. Did Daniel understand what he was being told? (Daniel 12:8). What was the question that Daniel asked?

9. What did Gabriel tell Daniel? (Daniel 12:9). Did he tell Daniel the words of his prophecy were closed up and sealed till the time of the end?

10. Will many be purified? (Daniel 12:10). Who will understand?

Note: The wise will understand at the time that God establishes. The wise who read Daniel will be able to understand the meaning which was denied Daniel.

11. What is the time period from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up? (Daniel 12:11).

Note: This prophecy is for the time of the end. Before the end time events can begin to unfold animal sacrifices must once again be started because they are prophesied to be stopped. We must be watching for the start of animal sacrifices.

Luke says that the abomination of desolation is the army of the beast gathered around Jerusalem (Luke 21:20-24). The false Christ will arrive in Jerusalem to prevent any Jewish resistance to the establishment of his rulership from Jerusalem. There will be some Jews who will not accept him as the Messiah and there will be some who will accept him as the Messiah.

The great tribulation will come upon the city of Jerusalem and the countries surrounding Jerusalem and they will be subjugated by the false Christ.

12. Is there a blessing for those who wait and comes to the 1335 days? (Daniel 12:12).

Note: The only event that can be connected to the beginning of this period of 1335 days is that it ends at the same time as the 1290 days and this is when the sacrifices are begun. There is nothing else you can connect it to. We know that the abomination is set up 1290 days prior to the end. If you are at the end and count backwards 1335 days, what do you come to, the only thing that is given in this scenario is that the sacrifices were to stop or be abolished. Therefore the only conclusion, and this is speculative, is this is the beginning of the animal sacrifices. This is the only visible warning that God gives to His Church of the time to begin the flight into the wilderness. See Zephaniah 2:1-3. There are 2 periods when the Church gathers together for flight, this is the first one and the second one is when the armies surround Jerusalem (Luke 21:20).

13. Is Daniel told to go his way, and that he will die and then be resurrected to his inheritance at the end of days? (Daniel 12:13.)

Note: Daniel is told by Gabriel that he will die and will arise in the first resurrection to his inheritance. At that time this vision will have already passed. What Daniel wanted to know about, he would never see it in his lifetime and when he would be resurrected it would all be over with.

Scripture Reading:

The End Times

(Daniel 12 NKJV) "At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book. {2} And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt. {3} Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever. {4} "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase." {5} Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank. {6} And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?" {7} Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished. {8} Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, "My lord, what shall be the end of these things?" {9} And he said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. {10} "Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. {11} "And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. {12} "Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. {13} "But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days."
