Lesson: Revelation 16 -Seven Last Plagues

Email: info@icogsfg.org

SCRIPTURE READING: Revelation  16:1-21

GOLDEN TEXT:  Revelation 16:1

1. Is God a God of love? (1 John 4:8, 16.) Is God a God of mercy? (Psalms 52:8,86:15, 136:26.) Is God a God of kindness? (Nehemiah 9:17, Joel 2:13, Psalms 117:1-2.) Is God slow to anger? (Psalms 103:8, 145:8, Joel 2:13.) Is God a God of justice? (Deuteronomy 32:3-4, Isa 30:18.) Does God every get angry? (1 Kings 11:9, Psalms 7:11.) Were the Doors of God’s Temple in heaven closed until the seven last plagues of the seven angels are completed? (Revelation 15:8.) Did the apostle John hear a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth?" (Revelation 16:1.) Did the first angel go and pour out his bowl upon the earth? (Revelation 16:2.) Did foul and loathsome sores come upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image? (Save verse.)

Note: God is a God of love, mercy and kindness and He is slow to anger, but He can and does at times get angry. God is a God of justice and there comes a time when He will deal out punishment upon man because of man’s sin. Could the loathsome sores be radiation burns from the sixth trumpet plague of the one hour nuclear war that just happened which destroyed one third of mankind? (Revelation 9:13-21.)

2. Did the second angel pour out his bowl on the sea, and did it become blood as of a dead man; and did every living creature in the sea die? (Revelation 16:3.)

Note: The second trumpet plague (Revelation 8:8-9) was a plague upon the sea and one third of the sea life was destroyed. Now it says that "every living creature in the sea died." Apparently this blood from the dead sea life will stink and possibly coagulate on the surface of the oceans and there will be a horrible odor all over the earth.

3. Did the third angel pour out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and did they became blood? (Revelation 16:4.) Did John hear the angel say: "You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, because You have judged these things? (Verse 5). What was it that God was judging here? Was it because they had shed the blood of saints and prophets? (Verse 6). Was God giving them blood to drink? (Same verse). Did they deserve this? (Same verse). Is the Lord God Almighty’s judgments true and righteous? (Verse 7).

Note: There is an important symbolism in justice and vengeance in actually paying back to the person what he perpetrated on someone else. God’s punishment is fair.

Note: The third trumpet plague (Revelation 8:10-11) involved one third of the fresh waters becoming bitter or poisonous but now they become blood. Now there is not one drop of water that is fit to drink on the surface of the earth at this time.

4. Did the fourth angel pour out his bowl on the sun, and was power given to him to scorch men with fire? (Revelation 16:8). Were men scorched with great heat? (Verse 9). Does Isaiah the prophet say that the light and heat of the sun will be magnified seven times in this time of the day of the Lord? (Isaiah 30:26). Did men blaspheme the name of God who has power over these plagues? (Revelation 16:9). Did these men repent and glorify God? (Same verse).

5. Did the fifth angel pour out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and did his kingdom became full of darkness? (Revelation 16:10). Did they gnaw their tongues because of the pain? (Same verse). Did they blaspheme God because of their pains and their sores? (Verse 11). Did they repent? (Same verse).

Note: God has saved Jerusalem from the nuclear war of the sixth trumpet plague for the fifth angel to pour out his bowl upon the beast who will be located in Jerusalem (Daniel 11:44-45).

6. Did the sixth angel pour out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and did its water become dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared? (Revelation 16:12).

Note: When the sixth angel sounded the sixth trumpet plague (Revelation 9:13-21), there were four angels who prevented the 200 million man army from coming down from the northeast towards Jerusalem before the time allotted and now the angels are removed. Now here in the sixth last plague, which is only a few hours later from the one hour nuclear war of the sixth trumpet plague and the return of Jesus Christ at the seventh trump (Christ had to return else no flesh would be saved alive-Matthew 24:22). All of these final events can’t take to much time because there is no water to drink and people would die. All of these final events are on an hourly basis.

Did John see three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet? (Verse 13). Are they spirits of demons and do they perform signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty? (Verse 14). Does Jesus Christ give us a warning that He will come as a thief? (Verse 15, Mat. 24:43). Will the Saints be blessed if they watch, and keep their garments clean and be righteous? (Same verse). Are these armies being gathered together to a place called Armageddon? (Verse 16).

Note: God is using demons to lead all of the armies to the plain of Megiddo (the valley of Jezreel) which is about 55 miles northwest of Jerusalem.

7. Did the seventh angel pour out his bowl into the air, and did a loud voice come out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done?" (Revelation 16:17).

Note: This is the final thing before Jesus Christ leads His army out of heaven as revealed in Revelation 19 to defeat this assembled multitude.

Was there was a great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth? (Revelation 16:18). Was the great city Jerusalem divided into three parts and did the cities of the nations fall? (Verse 19). Did God give Babylon the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath? Revelation 17 and 18 will describe how Babylon will come into remembrance before God. Will the great earthquake cause islands and mountains to disappear? (Verse 20). Was there great hail from heaven the weight of a talent (120 pounds) that fell upon men (Verse 21). Did this cause men to repent or to blaspheme God? Will many die from the hailstones? (Joshua 10:11).

8. Is the wrath of God now complete with the finishing of the seven last plagues? (Revelation 15:1).

Scripture Reading:

The Seven Bowls of God's Wrath

(Revelation 16 NKJV) Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth." {2} So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. {3} Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. {4} Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. {5} And I heard the angel of the waters saying: "You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. {6} For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due." {7} And I heard another from the altar saying, "Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments." {8} Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. {9} And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. {10} Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. {11} They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. {12} Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. {13} And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. {14} For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. {15} "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." {16} And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. {17} Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done!" {18} And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. {19} Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. {20} Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. {21} And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

(Deuteronomy 32:3-4 NKJV) For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. {4} He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

(Isaiah 30:18 NKJV) Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.

(1 Kings 11:9 NKJV) So the LORD became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

(Psalms 7:11 NKJV) God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.

(Revelation 15:8 NKJV) The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

(Daniel 11:44-45 NKJV) "But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. {45} "And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.

(Joshua 10:11 NKJV) And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the LORD cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.

8. (Revelation 15:1 NKJV) Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete.
