God Will Take Care Of You

By: Wynn Skelton

We sing a song in church, and I want to read it. The song is in our hymnal, page 69, and the title of it is, "God Will Take Care of You." I want to read it, it has four verses. I don't think you would want me singing it, okay, you do not want that, but I will read the verses but not the refrains. These are the words for these four verses:

1. "Be not dismayed whate’er betied, God will take care of you. Beneath his wings of love abide, God will take care of you.

2. Through days of toil, when heart doth fail, God will take care of you. When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you.

3. All you may need, He will provide, God will take care of you. All strength you need will be supplied, God will take care of you.

4. No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you. Lean weary one, upon His breast, God will take care of you."

Beautiful words when we sing it. I love the song and the tune and the words, just so meaningful, because I think one of the most difficult parts of our Christian life is the fact that we go through difficulties, and we go through trials, and one thing Christ does not make us, and did not make us immune from life's trials and tribulations, did He? We all have to go through those things, and, so if you're looking for a title for this message, it's "God will take care of you."

We All Deal With Difficulties

I want to offer some encouraging verses and scriptures because I know we all are dealing with difficulties, and I think of some in our congregation that are really suffering with difficulties now, and those that are dealing with cancer or heart problems. We might ask sometimes, why would a good and loving God allow us to go through such things? Why would He allow that? Why such things as death, illnesses, suffering, diseases, injuries to ourselves and loved ones, financial hardships. Sometimes those are our problems, that we bring on ourselves.

But what about worry and fear? We have those things in life. We would rather not have any difficulties. I don't think any of us would like any of that. We don't want these things. They're not fun.

Why doesn't God take them all away from us? Well, I think we can read scriptures today that will help us understand, and if we don't know already, and I think we do, I just want to offer some encouragement to us in a very difficult time for so many.

All Things Work Together for good to them that love God

The Bible clearly teaches that God loves us, his children, and I do believe that what it says over here in Romans chapter 8, thinking about all that we deal with, all that we go through, all of the circumstances of our lives.

Let’s read this in verse 28 of Romans chapter 8, "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose."

All things work together for good. Even in our difficulties and trials and these challenges we go through, it's hard to imagine that we would suffer like we suffer, but such is the human existence of human life.

All things work together for good, such as trials and tribulations that God allows in our lives are part of the working together for all things good, and I believe that.

Therefore, we have to believe that all trials and tribulations have a divine purpose and a good outcome, even if, it's challenging, with what we're going through.

Why We Suffer?

I gave a sermon a few years ago where I was talking about, "Why we suffer and what we go through and, what is the purpose for these challenges and the things that God puts us through."

I want to read Malachi 3, because I think this is an answer to why, and what God’s purpose is in the difficulties, challenges, sufferings that we go through. What is the reason for this?

Verse 2 of Malachi 3 says, "But who may abide the day of His coming? And who will stand when He appears?"

Well, we all want to say, "I'm going to abide, and I want to stand. I want to be there."

And then it says, "For He is like a refiner's fire and like a fuller soap."

So we get the heat and pressure of a refiner's fire, and, it purges us. The ultimate goal of that is to purge impurities, to refine our ability to endure, help us to be strengthened in those things.

But it says in verse 3, "He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver."

That's beautiful. The process is harder, because when we're being refined and when we're being purged and purified, that's not always easy, because I don't think trials are easy.

Sometimes God really has to lay some of those things on us to help us overcome, grow, and accept, what we go through in life. I think about that. God sits as a refiner's fire and a fuller soap.

I don't think we should feel alone or like God's picking on us, because, every son that He loves, He chastens, and everything done in this life is for a good purpose for us, to help us. He knows what we need. And that's why I think our difficulties in trials are so varied, except for maybe, illnesses. They're horrible. They're difficult.

Christ’s Prayer For You

Over in John chapter 17, we read this usually during Passover, when we're reading, sections of John 13 through 17, notice what Jesus says here. We're going to read verses 10 and 11 here. This was Christ's prayer for us.

{10} "And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. {11} And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, you and me. And I come to you, Holy Father, keep through your own name those whom you have given me, that they may be one as we are."

There's always concern and care and love on God's part, even with difficulties, because He's wanting us to become as He is.

{12} "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name, those that you gave me that have I kept. And none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. {13} And now I come to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves."

This is God's wish for us."

{14} "I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." And then verse 15, "I pray not that you, should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil or the evil one."

So here we are, He doesn't want to take us out of the world, and we have these challenges and difficulties, but here's the bottom line, God will take care of us, no matter what we go through.

{16} "They are not of the world, even as I'm not of the world. {17} Sanctify them through your truth. Thy word is truth. {18} As you have sent me into the world, even so have I sent them into the world."

Now, I think these are words are for us, but specifically, I know this would have been encouraging words for the twelve disciples to hear, because they were going to have to carry on the things, of Christ. Verse 20, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word."

That would be us, all those through the ages that have read that, that they may, that they all may be one as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they may also be one in us, that the world may believe that you have sent me. And the glory which you have given me, have I given them, that they may be one even as we are one. I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them as you have loved me."

Those are pretty spectacular words, that even, with the difficulties and trials, the goal is, Jesus wants us to be one with Him and the Father, and, that's the ultimate goal.

And one of these days, we will hear this in 1 John, chapter 3, beginning here in verse 1, it says, "Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not. {2} Beloved, now are we the sons of God. It does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him."

I'm going to read that again, "but we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is."

{3} "Every man that has this hope in Him purifies himself, even as he is pure."

One of these days, we're going to be able to see Him as He is.

It goes on to say in verse 9, "Whoever is born of God does not commit sin."

We have this future ahead. All the difficulties and trials that you and I go through, we have to keep this in mind, this is for our good and benefit to purify and purge, to build faith, to be able to endure difficulties, and even endure death, so that we can have the future of eternal life.

I'm Not Afraid Of Death

I don't know quite how to say this, "I'm not afraid of death." And I think for most of us, I don't think we are either. I think what we're afraid of is what we will have to go through in that process, maybe the difficulties, the pain and the suffering.

Maybe that's the difficulty. I'm thankful for this life, as many days as God will give me, here on this earth. But I know that it's okay when we die, because then the next waking moment for us is eternal life.

And then we have a Scripture here in, Psalms 116, and verse 15, which says, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." I think all of us in this congregation and all of those in God’s Church and even those that are resting and sleeping in their graves, now are, "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints," and they're waiting for the first resurrection. I think about Hebrews 11 and all of the faithful that are going to be resurrected.

None of them and none of us gets through life without suffering and difficulty. It is kind of our lot of human beings.

We Are God’s Children

Romans chapter 8, starting in verse 16, we'll read, "The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs."

This is a great promise that we have as heirs, and the promise in Revelation 21 that says, "He that overcomes shall inherit all things."

How awesome is that! But verse 17, says, "If children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also be glorified together."

Suffering

Now, suffering, if you want to take that and break that apart, there's all kinds of suffering. There's physical pain, but I'm telling you, emotional pain and mental pain, that's hard suffering. If we lose a loved one, it's hard, it's difficult suffering with agony.

Romans 8 and verse 18 says, "For I reckon," I always love it, our friend Paul said, "for I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

Whatever we go through, isn't worthy to be compared with what's ahead in the future.

And I love that verse that says, "One of these days we won't remember any of this" (Eccl. 5:20).

But now, this is what we have and, we have to be strong and deal with whatever it is that comes our way. And don't worry, God is with us all the way. He is there for us.

God Will Take Care of You

Are we burdened? Yeah. Are we uncertain about tomorrow? Hey, we just have to lay our anxieties and our difficulties upon God

We'll read some of those things.

In 1 Peter 5, we have a scripture that I find very loving and encouraging, Verse 6 says, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you."

God is very concerned about you. He's concerned for every one of us. He knows what every one of us, each of us needs.

We have a great promise in 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13, it says, "who will not suffer you to be tempted above what you're able."

Whatever we go through, God will not lay on us anything more, than we can bear. We're not going to be given trials we can't handle. But we have to cast our care upon Him and look to Him and trust Him and have faith.

To deal with difficulties is difficult.

The God of all Comfort

In 2 Corinthians, God is called the God of all comfort. And we know that.

2 Corinthians 1 and verses 3 and 4, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; {4} Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."

Who comforts us in our tribulations? God does. And I hope we feel that.

I was going to play a song, but I felt it might be too long. The song is entitled "The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery." It is about a little girl who was the daughter of abusive parents and druggies and suffering that they went through. This is a real life story for many, telling about the sufferings that we see going on in the world.

Jesus wept for Jerusalem. He wept for people. He healed people. He was concerned, God is our comfort and care. I just think as we go through trials in life, He doesn't want to take them away. He will always be there to comfort and make, a way for us to get through the difficulties. And guess what? That's a promise. That's a beautiful promise.

Psalms 141 is another beautiful Psalm. Let’s read verses 1 through 5,

"O LORD, I am calling to you. Please hurry! Listen when I cry to you for help! {2} Accept my prayer as incense offered to you, and my upraised hands as an evening offering. {3} Take control of what I say, O LORD, and keep my lips sealed. {4} Don't let me lust for evil things; don't let me participate in acts of wickedness. Don't let me share in the delicacies of those who do evil. {5} Let the godly strike me! It will be a kindness! If they reprove me, it is soothing medicine. Don't let me refuse it. But I am in constant prayer against the wicked and their deeds."

Let’s notice Psalms 121. I want to read specifically verse 7. But, this whole chapter is a great chapter, dealing with difficulties and trials.

Verse 1, "I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence my help comes." lifting our eyes to God. {2} "My help comes from the Lord, which has made heaven and earth." That's where our help is. But, verse 7, "The Lord shall preserve you from all evil. He shall preserve your soul."

I think about God, and what God is and what He does, and how He takes care of us. He is watching out for us.

In Isaiah 41 and verse 10, He says, "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteousness." {31} "But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."

God said, "Don't fear, I'm with you."

David had the right words of God about his care and concern. He said, "Under his wings will I find refuge." That was Psalms 91 and verse 4.

We have the whole Psalms 23, "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil."

God is with us and He does take care of us. He supplies all that we need and all of our cares.

Over here in Hebrews 13, just a couple more scriptures. Because I think we, we need to know that God is not going to take away everything in the way of difficulties that we're going to face. We're going to need to trust in Him and love Him and realize all things are working together for a good purpose.

He says in verse 5 of Hebrews 13, "Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

He's always there for us. And His compassion, Lamentations 3 verse 32 says, "But though he cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies."

God doesn't grow weary of us nor taking care of us. And so that is very, very, very encouraging to me. Yes, trials develop godly character, no doubt about it.

And that enables us to, as it says, in James 1, "Count it all joy, when you fall into different trials and temptations."

God's not going to leave us. He's always going to be there for us.

Jesus Christ suffered for us. He died for us so that He could know what we go through, so that He could give us the comfort that we need.

Jesus Is Our High Priest

Lets notice what Hebrews 4 and verse 15 says, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. {16} Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

In our times of trials and difficulties we need to go to Christ, for we have a high priest that can be touched with the feelings of our infirmities.

Christ is there with us and for us. Romans 5 verse 1 says: "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, {2} through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. {3} And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; {4} and perseverance, character; and character, hope. {5} Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which was given to us."

We are to glory in tribulations because of what it is developing in us, character, hope and faith and hope does not disappoint, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by His Holy Spirit. And He's given us all the things that we need.

Let's Develop Perfect Character

I think we should end in Romans chapter 8. Just a few more verses, and we will read to the end of the chapter. Let's develop perfect character through our difficulties. They're not fun and they're not easy. But, let's endure to the end and build some character.

And let's help each other too, if there's one thing we really can count on, is we can count on each other for comfort, We can send cards, letters and phone calls and send emails.

I always find the Sabbath as a great day to do that. Think of somebody today that needs some encouraging words and, give them a call because they're suffering and going through difficulty.

Verse 31 of Romans 8 says, "What shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? {32} He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for all of us, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"

That's a lot of love from the Father and the Son, even in difficulties.

{33} "Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifies. {34} Who is He that condemns? It is Christ that died, yes, rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us."

We can rely on Jesus Christ who makes intercession for us.

Paul in Romans 8:31-34 says, "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? {32} He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? {33} Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. {34} Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us."

These last few verses are really encouraging to me.

Nothing Can Separate Us From the Love of God

Paul says in Romans 8:35-39, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? {36} As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." {37} Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. {38} For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, {39} nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him" (James 1:12).

Remember, God will take care of you!
